Facebook rolls out new Hindi transliteration tool for Android in India

Facebook has rolled out a new feature, where users will now be able to type in Hindi on their Android app, even if their smartphone does not support the native Devanagari script.

The new Hindi transliteration feature lets users type in English and have it automatically converted into the Devanagari script before posting. When the app setting is turned on, a button is added to the bar where you type updates and comments. This feature is now available to people in India on the latest version of Facebook Android app.

“We’ve heard feedback from people that they’d like to read and write in their native Hindi script on Facebook. So we are now rolling out a lightweight Hindi editor inside the Facebook app for Android phones. When the app setting is turned on, a button is added to the bar where you type updates and comments, which automatically transliterates Roman characters to Hindi script.”

Last week, Facebook announced the free group calling feature for Messenger update.
