Should You Buy?
Overall specifications wise, the Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro is not exactly a redefining phone we usually expect from Xiaomi but it is a great practical phone with almost everything right. It packs in a bright & beautiful display with a notch, sturdy & good-looking design with a comfortable size, great rear cameras, huge battery, latest software with all the features, face unlock & a lot more. Although the processor is a bit old, it’s tried & tested, & is still good enough. For its price, it doesn’t miss out on anything important & is a pretty modern well-balanced smartphone with a good user experience.

Xiaomi has been really launching lots of phones in the budget segment but, this time, its new phone for the Indian market comes with something we expected a lot earlier from Xiaomi. We are talking about the iPhone X like ‘notch’ on the new Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro, which is the first budget oriented Redmi series phone to come with a notch. It sports a 5.84 inches screen, which could usually make the phone big and difficult to use with one hand but with a notch, you get more screen real estate with a lot compact size of the phone.
The phone is designed pretty well, it is beautiful and looks very similar to the popular Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro and comes with a similar metallic back with small plastic patches on the top and bottom of the back for antennas. The corners and edges are well rounded and the phone is very comfortable to hold. The FHD+ IPS display is pretty bright, has good colors and is actually very good for the price.
The Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro runs on the old Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor which was considered great for budget phones a couple of months earlier but now we expect more powerful processors at this price. But if you look at this phone, Xiaomi has made a sensible decision to use the Snapdragon 625 as it is still a powerful processor capable of handling heavy usage, multitasking and most heavy games efficiently, and it has allowed Xiaomi to not compromise with any important feature on this phone and keep the price low.
However, if you are a real heavy gamer, we recommend you to go with a phone with at least the Snapdragon 636, like Xiaomi’s own Redmi Note 5 Pro or the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1. The phone comes paired with either 3 GB or 4 GB of RAM and Adreno 506 GPU. Coming to the cameras, the Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro has got its dual rear cameras straight from the Redmi Note 5 Pro, which means it has a 12 MP + 5 MP setup on the back which is just great at this price. It can click some really amazing photos with good bokeh effect.
On the front, there is a 5 MP f/2.0 aperture selfie shooter, which is not very great but is kind of okay in at least daylight conditions. But if you click a lot of selfies, the Redmi 6 Pro won’t please you much and you should consider a different smartphone, probably Xiaomi’s own Redmi Y2. It can record videos maximum at 1080p @ 30 fps and there is no 4K support, however, it has got EIS which works really well. It runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with Xiaomi’s beautiful, optimised & feature rich MIUI 9.6 running on top.
The dual sim Redmi 6 Pro comes with 4G and VoLTE support but you can use 4G on only one sim at a time. It comes with 32 GB and 64 GB of internal storage variants which are expandable up to 256 GB. Thankfully, it comes with dedicated slots for the two sim cards & the microSD card. The fingerprint scanner situated on the back is very fast and accurate and it has also got a fast face unlock.
There is also an IR blaster on the top which lets you control your electronic appliances like TV, AC, set-top box and more using Xiaomi’s app. One of the best thing about the Redmi 6 Pro is that it comes with a big 4000 mAh Li-Po battery which delivers excellent battery backup. Sadly, like most phones at this price, the Redmi 6 pro also doesn’t support fast charging and comes with a 5V 2A charger phone comes with a
