Vivo V9 Review:
After the Vivo V7, the company has launched yet another selfie-centric smartphone in India, the Vivo V9. And like all Vivo smartphones, the best thing about the Vivo V9 is its selfie camera, which is a 24 MP f/2.0 shooter capable of clicking some excellent selfies. It also comes with AI Face Beauty to enhance your facial beauty, AI Selfie Lighting and AR Stickers. It is one of the best selfie smartphones at its price. On the back, it gets a dual camera setup with a 16 MP primary sensor and a 5 MP secondary sensor, which again clicks good quality images and produces good bokeh effects. But, facial edge detection still needs more work.
In the Vivo V9, the limelight is not limited to the cameras only but, it has also got a big beautiful bezel-less display with iPhone X like ‘notch’ on the top. The 6.3 inches Fullview FHD+ display with 19:9 aspect ratio and 400 ppi pixel density is good in terms of quality and colors. The display covers up most of the front, which makes the phone very beautiful and attractive from the front. However, the Vivo V9 comes in a glossy plastic body that is a fingerprint magnet. On the performance front, it is powered by a 2.2 GHz Octa Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 processor paired with 4 GB RAM and Adreno 506 GPU.
It delivers good performance for gaming, multitasking and day to day usage. The Vivo V9 runs on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with the Funtouch OS 4.0 running on top. The Funtouch OS which now includes AI features like Attention Sensing to reduce notification volume while you look towards the phone, is heavily customized and Vivo has tried to make it more like Apple’s iOS, you cannot say it’s bad but, it needs some time to get used to, if you are used to other Android phones. The Vivo V9 has got one more feature from the iPhone X – facial unlock, which is purely software based but is fast and works well.
It also gets a fast fingerprint scanner on the back. The Vivo V9 supports 4G, VoLTE and comes with dedicated sim slots. It has got 64 GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 256 GB via microSD card. It is backed by a non-removable 3260 mAh Li-Ion battery, which delivers decent battery backup. Sadly, it doesn’t support fast charging, which has become a basic requirement for most of us now. The Vivo V9 comes with 7.9mm thickness and weighs at just 150 grams.
