Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) Review:
Samsung has launched its new Galaxy A5 (2017) which serves as a mid budget flagship phone for the company. The Galaxy A5 (2017) is one of the first Samsung phones in India to support its new revolutionary ‘Samsung Pay’, which enables you to store your card information in your phone and pay wirelessly. It works with almost all the POS machines in India and to make a payment, all you need to do is, swipe up from the bottom of the screen, use fingerprint or pin to authorise the transaction and place the phone against the POS machine and your payment is done securely. Samsung Pay is really a great technology and makes life easier and the Galaxy A5 (2017) supporting Samsung Pay is one of the best thing about the phone.
Galaxy A5 comes with a very beautiful and premium looking design with nice curved glass in the front and rear blending seamlessly into the metal frame. With round edges, it is comfortable to hold. The Galaxy A5 (2017) gets full marks in the design department. It comes in a 5.2 inches screen with Full HD Super AMOLED display and has excellent quality. The screen is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 4. The Galaxy A5 (2017) comes with an Always On display instead of the notification LED, it consumes very less power and turns the display black and white and shows time, calendar and other important notification icons, it is a nice handy feature. It runs on Samsung’s own 1.9 GHz Octa Core Exynos 7880 processor which comes coupled with 3 GB RAM and Mali-T830 GPU. The Exynos 7880 is much like the Snapdragon 625 processor, it delivers very good performance without overheating and is battery efficient also. Apart from smooth day to day usage, heavy games and multitasking are also handled well in the Galaxy A5 (2017). It features a 16 MP f/1.9 aperture rear camera which has very good picture quality. For selfie lovers, the phone packs another 16 MP f/1.9 aperture camera in the front, which again takes beautiful and detailed selfies. Both the cameras handle low light performance well also. Both the cameras can record 1080p (Full HD) videos only, apart from 4k recording capability, OIS is also missing in the phone. The camera app also includes various filters and a Pro mode.
The phone still runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow but will get the Nougat update soon. It comes with Samsung’s new Grace UX which is a lighter version of the Touchwiz UI. The Grace UX looks better and has some added features and themes support, it also has one handed mode. Another great thing about the phone is, it is IP68 Water and Dust resistant so, you can wash your phone or jump inside a swimming pool with pride and no fear at all! The phone has an accurate fingerprint scanner situated on the home button below the screen. It uses USB Type-C port for data syncing and charging. The Galaxy A5 (2017) comes with two sim slots and a separate microSD slot. It has 32 GB of internal storage which is expandable upto 256 GB. It is backed by a non-removable Li-Ion 3000 mAh battery which delivers good battery backup and supports Samsung’s fast charging which fully charges the phone in around 80 minutes.
Overall, the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) is a great beautiful smartphone with correct balance of everything. It offers many flagship like features and there is hardly anything bad in the phone. It gives a premium and pretty balanced user experience and specially Samsung Pay makes it even greater. The only thing which goes against the phone is its price. It doesn’t use a top of the line processor and still costs on the higher side while its competitors offer much more at the same price. But still, the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) offers many reason to go for it.
