Pokemon Go finally launched in India with Reliance Jio – Niantic partnership
The most popular augmented reality mobile video game of 2016, ‘Pokemon Go’ is finally launched in India. Niantic, Inc. the developer of the game along with The Pokemon Company has partnered with Reliance Jio Infocomm to launch the game in India.
The game requires the players to move around in their neighbourhood to hunt Pokemon, using the smartphones’ GPS to track, capture, battle and train the characters. Now, in partnership with Reliance Jio, the company’s Digital Stores, Jio retail locations and charging stations will appear in the game as PokeStops and Gyms.
Pokemon Go was launched in July this year and it took the world by storm. It created huge waves around the world, as gamers took the game with open hands and created social groups with those who were playing the game.
Reliance Jio users will be able to download the game without incurring data charges under the company’s new Happy New Year offer. With over 500 million downloads globally, Pokemon Go has become a worldwide phenomenon ever since it was launched. It also became the fastest game to get to the top of the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
We are delighted to partner with Jio to launch Pokémon Go in India. It’s exciting to see Pokémon fans in India step out and explore their neighbourhoods in search of Pokémon and Jio’s disruptive high-speed 4G LTE Network will be an excellent way to experience the game.
– John Hanke, Chief Executive Officer and Founder, Niantic, Inc.
The game will be available to download via Google Play Store and the Apple App Store staring from Wednesday, 14th December in India.
