The Chinese chipset maker Mediatek has extended their Helio processors line-up by adding the new ‘Helio P15’ SoC which is a successor of the widely used Helio P10 processor.
The Helio P15 packs the same TSMC 28nm fabrication process as on the Helio P10. The dual-core Mali-T860 MP2 GPU has also been retained with increased clocking speed of 800 MHz. The Helio P15 packs an octa-core Cortex-A53 processor clocked at 2.2 GHz, with an upgrade over 2.0 GHz of P10.
MediaTek promises a 10% performance increase over the previous generation and better power efficiency. The Helio P15 chips will see minor battery improvements as they are also manufactured under the same fabrication process.
It is not clear if MediaTek have increased memory bandwidth or performance, but the company is reportedly opting for the same single channel LPDDR3-933 RAM. The Helio P15 is LTE-capable with a support for LTE Cat.6.
However, there is no word on the availability of Helio P15 SoC in the market yet, but we can expect it in various budget devices very soon. Stay tuned for more updates!
