Coolpad Cool1 Dual Review:
Last year, LeEco became the largest shareholder of Coolpad and both the Chinese companies decided to launch new smartphones under the new “Cool” branding, apart from launching smartphones in their own brandings. The Coolpad Cool1 Dual is the first smartphone in the Cool series, let’s get into the details of the phone. Starting with the design, the Cool1 packs excellent metallic body and looks similar to the LeEco Le 2 or even more similar to the LeEco Le 1S Eco except, the rear camera unit is placed in center on top the phone looks beautiful and feels sturdy and premium.
It comes with a 5.5 inches Full HD IPS display which has good quality, although the large black bezels around the display are annoying. On the performance front, it runs on the very powerful 1.8 GHz Snapdragon 652 processor coupled with 4 GB RAM and Adreno 510 GPU and delivers great performance, which is one of the best at this price. It can handle heavy gaming and multitasking well. However, the biggest highlight of the Cool1 is, it packs in two 13 MP rear cameras, one captures the usual coloured photos while the other one captures monochromatic (black & white) photos. When you click a picture, both the cameras work simultaneously and produce a single image with added details and depth. The picture quality is very good in good lighting conditions however, there is a little noise in low light conditions but, it is acceptable at this price. A great benefit of the dual camera setup is, it allows Bokeh effect (background blurred) like DSLRs, it doesn’t work perfectly well all the times but the images come great when you manage to apply it properly.
You can also change the focus point of the image after it is clicked. It also allows you to click artistic black and white images and also supports 4K video recording; the camera app is also good. The 8 MP front camera is also a decent shooter, it comes with the face beautification feature. Summing up the camera, the Cool1 packs good cameras for its price, the added Bokeh effect is a really nice thing to have. The phone runs on LeEco’s EUI 5.6 based on Android v6.0 Marshmallow. The EUI is good; it is fast, efficient and customisable. The fingerprint scanner on the back is fast. The phone includes IR Blaster and Remote app which lets you control your TV, Set top box, AC, Music System, etc. with your phone, it is a very handy feature and very few phones support it. It is a Dual Sim phone with 4G and VoLTE support. The Cool1 comes with 32 GB of internal storage but sadly it is not expandable, this is the biggest downside in the phone. The phone is backed by a non-removable Li-Ion 4000 mAh battery which delivers excellent battery backup. It also supports Quick Charge 2.0 fast charging via USB Type-C port which charges the phone 50% in 30 mins, claims the company. Despite there is LeEco’s involvement in the phone, it doesn’t come with its Supertainment package which allows premium subscription to many Indian media publishers free for a year.
Overall, the Coolpad Cool1 Dual is a very good feature rich smartphone with excellent performance, design and battery life and offers good Dual rear cameras which provide some cool extra features. A good buy at this price.
