As it was scheduled, the Chinese smartphone maker Coolpad has launched its Cool Play 6 smartphone in India. The Coolpad Cool Play 6 was launched in China back in May and has now hit the shelves in India. The smartphone is priced at Rs. 14,999 in India and as per the company, it has been customised for the Indian market. The smartphone will be sold exclusively via Amazon and will be available from 4th September in Gold and Black colors.

The Cool Play 6 comes with some worthy specifications and highlights its dual rear camera setup. The smartphone was touted as a heavy performer appropriate for gaming, considering its 6 GB RAM and massive battery when it was launched in China. It sports a 5.5-inch Full-HD (1080 x 1920 pixels) display and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 processor along with Adreno 510 GPU. As mentioned earlier, it comes with 6 GB RAM and 64 GB inbuilt storage which can be further expanded via microSD card. The device runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat with company’s custom Journey UI on top and will also receive Android 8.0 update by the end of the year.

The imaging department consists of a dual rear camera setup with two 13-megapixel Sony sensors for capturing monochrome and color images. The primary sensor comes with f/2.0 aperture, 6P lens and autofocus, where the rear camera unit is accompanied with a dual-tone LED flash as well. There is also an 8-megapixel sensor with f/2.2 aperture in the front for selfies and video calls.

The smartphone packs a mammoth 4,000 mAh battery that is claimed to deliver up to 300 hours on standby time and can run for up to 2 days within a single charge. The company also announced that it will bring the Coolpad S1 Changer, Harmon/Kardon audio enhancements in the country around Diwali. The connectivity options of the smartphone include, dual-sim support, 4G LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS/AGPS, USB-Type C and a 3.5 mm audio jack.

Syed Tajuddin, CEO, Coolpad India, during the launch said:

“Year 2017 has been a game changer for Coolpad in India and we continue to put our resources in the country with a plan to achieve 50% percentage growth to extend our market share to 6 % of the total market in India. We already have offline presence in 8 states with a reach in 3000 Multi-brand outlets and have plans to expand it to a total number of 18 states in next one year. It is only because of the quality of our products that today Coolpad smart phones have a 25% market share on Amazon in the sub Rs. 8000 category. With this launch we not only plan to lead the online space but also to make a bigger impact on the offline market in India.”

Also, according to James Du, Global CEO, Coolpad Group, India and the US are now two of the largest markets for Coolpad overseas. He shared that in the next 6 months, the company will launch exclusive Coolpad service centres in India in at least 5 cities. The phone will be manufactured at Videocon’s Aurangabad plant as part of the company’s Make in India efforts.

The Coolpad Cool Play 6 could go neck to neck with other budget smartphones in this price range, especially the recently launched Lenovo K8 Note. It will be interesting to see the response that the smartphone gets once the sales kick off.
