Xiaomi Mi 5 with Snapdragon 820, 3D Ceramic glass, 4-Axis OIS launched at MWC 2016
Xiaomi has finally launched its much awaited flagship phone of the year, the Xiaomi Mi 5 at MWC 2016 in Barcelona, Spain. The phone is packed with great hardware and a very beautiful design. The thin metal framed smartphone has ceramic body that measures 144.5 x 69.2 x 7.25mm and weighs 129 grams. It will be offered in black, gold and white color variants.
The Mi 5 flaunts a 5.15 inches Full HD (1920×1080 pixels) display with pixel density of 428 ppi (pixels per inch), curved 3D Ceramic glass and 600 nits brightness. It is powered by Qualcomm’s latest flagship Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor with 64-bit architecture clocked at 2.2 GHz, clubbed with Adreno 530 GPU and 4 GB RAM. It will be company’s first smartphone that will offer 128 GB internal storage (UFS 2.0 that makes it 87% faster than regular one). It runs on latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow with the company’s own MIUI 7 on top.
The Mi 5 sports a 16 megapixel rear Sony’s latest IMX298 sensor with dual-tone LED flash, PDAF (Phase Detection Auto focus), 4-axis OIS (Optical Image Stabilization), f/2.0 aperture and 4K video recording. On the front, it boasts a 4 megapixel front-facing camera with 2 micron pixel and aperture of f/2.0. The smartphone also features a fingerprint sensor integrated into home button, an infrared sensor and is packed with 3000mAh battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 support that will offer talk time of up to 2.5 hours with just 5 minutes of charge and charges about 80-90% in just 1 hour.
Connectivity options on the Mi 5, which is a dual Sim smartphone phone includes 4G LTE with VoLTE (Voice over LTE, that connects call much faster and HD audio quality) along with other features like WiFi 802.11 b/g/n/ac dual-band (MIMO), Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, NFC, USB Type-C.
However, the Xiaomi Mi 5 will be available in three variants – two standard editions, one that features 3GB LPDD4 RAM and 32 GB inbuilt storage, priced at CNY 1,999 (approx. Rs. 21,000) and another with 3 GB LPDDR4 RAM and 64 GB internal memory, priced at CNY 2,299 (approx. Rs. 24,000). Whereas the Mi 5 Pro, which is the top variant that was showcased at MWC, features 4GB LPDD4 RAM and 128 GB internal storage and is priced at CNY 2,699 (approx. Rs. 28,000). It will go on sale in China from March 1, while the company has promised that it will launch the smartphone in other regions including India very soon.
Also, the company claims to have sold about 70 million Mi smartphones all over the world, and that it is currently ranked no. 1 in China, while residing at 5th position in the World’s smartphone industry.
