Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ launched in India starting at Rs. 57,900, pre-orders started
The much awaited Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ have finally arrived in India after the global launch a few weeks ago. Both the smartphones were highly anticipated by Samsung fans in India right from the launch. The South Korean tech giant today launched its Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones at an event in New Delhi, India. Let’s get into the details of the phones one by one:
Pricing, availability and launch offers:
The Samsung Galaxy S8 is priced at Rs. 57,900, whereas the bigger variant i.e the Galaxy S8+ is priced at Rs. 64,900. Both the smartphones will be up for pre-orders on Flipkart from 3 pm today and all those who pre-order will receive the smartphones bundled with a wireless charger. Also there’s a special offer for Jio customers under which they will get double the amount of their data if they pre-order the phones. The smartphones will start shipping from 5th May and will be available in Dual Sim variant with Midnight Black, Orchid Gray, Arctic Silver, Coral Blue and Maple Gold as color options .
Apart from all this, Flipkart has additional goodies for all those who buy these smartphones from their e-commerce site. First of all, Flipkart is offering express delivery where the phones will be delivered on the 1st day of release i.e., 5th May. Also, 8 shoppers will get the phones 48-hours before the release. Flipkart is also giving away exciting S8 merchandise with every order and there’s also a doorstep set up facility available for those who are looking to switch from their iPhones to S8. Additionally, there are convenient payment options with no cost EMI’s.
Infinity Display:
The Galaxy S8 sports a 5.8-inch QHD+ (1440 x 2960 pixels) Super AMOLED display where as the Galaxy S8+ bears a 6.2-inch QHD+ (1440 x 2960 pixels) Super AMOLED display. The Galaxy S8 and S8+ are the first smartphones in the world to be certified with Mobile HDR Premium display by the UHD Alliance. Screens of both the smartphones have an end to end bezel-less design which the company dubs as ‘Infinity Display’. There is a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on both the screen as well as on the glass back panel.
New highlighting features:
Samsung has brought in some really exciting and new features with the Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones, amongst which the highlight is Samsung’s own Virtual Assistant ‘Bixby’ that is debuting with the smartphones. ‘Bixby’ is similar to other Virtual Assistants like Siri, Google Assistant, Cortana and Amazon Alexa, it will respond to the voice commands given by the users. Not only this but, as per the company ‘Bixby’ will also keep track of user’s habits, will keep learning and work accordingly.
Along with ‘Bixby’ there’s also a brand new UX. As per the company, this new UX is designed to enhance the user experience with the Infinity display. Also, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ are the first smartphones with Bluetooth v5.0 and can stream on two devices at a time. Both the phones come with IP68 rating which makes them water and dust resistant.
Processor, RAM & Storage:
Taking a look at the specifications, most of them are same as they were when the two smartphones were launched globally. However, a major difference that can be spotted is with the processor, where the Galaxy S8 and S8+ were launched with the 2.3 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core processor, they are brought in India with the Exynos 8895 octa-core processor clocked at 2.3 GHz, this was earlier announced by the company. Both the smartphones come with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage which can be further extended up to 256 GB via microSD card.
Camera:
In the imaging department, both the smartphones feature a 12 MP ‘Dual pixel’ rear camera with f/1.7 aperture and optical image stabilisation. Also, there is an 8 MP f/1.7 aperture front camera with auto-focus and 80 degree wide angle lens.
Security, Sensors and Connectivity options:
The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ sport an Iris scanner that can be used to quickly unlock the phone and other accounts with the help of your eyes. There is also a fingerprint scanner, this time moved to the back of both the smartphones. Apart from these two, Samsung’s improved Facial recognition technology can also be used to unlock the devices in no time.
The regular on board sensors include accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, barometer, heart rate counter etc. For connectivity, there is 4G VoLTE (Cat. 16), Wi-Fi 802.11ac (2.4 GHz, 5 GHz), Bluetooth v5.0, USB Type-C, NFC and GPS. Both the smartphones support Samsung Pay as well.
Battery and Measurements:
The Samsung Galaxy S8 comes with a 3,000 mAh battery where as the Galaxy S8+ is provided with a bigger 3,500 mAh battery. Both the devices support wireless charging, smart charging and quick charging. The Galaxy S8 measures 148.9 x 68.1 x 8 mm and weighs 155 grams and the Galaxy S8+ measures 159.5 x 73.4 x 8.1 mm and weighs at 173 grams.
