Moto G6 (4 GB)

After a long wait, Motorola has finally launched the Moto G6 in India and like always, it commands a lot of user interest and expectations. The Moto G series has evolved a lot since its beginning and with the Moto G6, the company has brought in trendy features like the tall 18:9 aspect ratio display & face unlock feature. One of the biggest changes over the last generation Moto G5s series is, the Moto G6 now comes in a more premium glass back design with aluminium frame, which looks and feels too good for its price.

The Moto G6 comes with a narrow bezel design, however, the bezels aren’t actually very narrow, there is a thick chin on the bottom, although it compensates for its thickness by incorporating a pill-shaped fingerprint scanner below the screen. With its glass back design and the tall display on the front, the Moto G6 looks really good. It sports a 5.7 inches Full HD+, 18:9 aspect ratio Max Vision display with 424 ppi pixel density and has good display quality. There is Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection on both the front and rear glass panels. The phone is not too big and is very comfortable to hold in hands and is manageable with one hand.

The Moto G6 comes with a dual camera set up on the back which includes a 12 MP primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture and a 5 MP secondary sensor with f/2.2 aperture. The picture quality is very good in daylight and it even does a good job in the night and low light conditions. The camera app includes a lot of modes & filters, focus and bokeh effects controls. Using the depth mode you can click an image with the subject in colors while the background in black and white. It also allows you to cut out the subject and change the background. It comes with dual LED flash and can record videos up to 1080p@60fps. On the front, there is a big 16 MP selfie shooter accompanied with an LED flash. It comes with Face filters, Group selfie mode, Beautification mode and produces very good selfies.

Disappointingly, the Moto G6 is powered by the 1.8 GHz Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor which is an entry-level chipset and can be found in the sub Rs. 10,000 phones like the Xiaomi Redmi 5. Although the Snapdragon 450 is not a bad processor and delivers good performance for day to day usage and some gaming, when you compare its performance with the similar or even lower priced phones like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 which come with the Snapdragon 636 processor or even the Realme 1 which comes with the powerful Helio P60 processor, the Moto G6 lags far behind and feels overpriced. It comes paired with 3 GB/ 4 GB RAM and Adreno 506 GPU.

The Moto G6 runs on Android 8.0 Oreo with almost Stock Android UI, Motorola has added some very useful features like One Button Navigation which, lets you use gestures on the fingerprint scanner for navigation, replacing the onscreen navigation buttons and frees up a lot of screen space. There are also the usual Moto Actions like Quick screenshot, Chop twice for torch, Twist for quick capture, Swipe to shrink screen, Pick up to stop ringing, Flip for do not disturb. The Moto Display is also a very useful addition and gives you a glimpse of notifications without unlocking the phone.

The Moto G6 comes in two storage variants of 32 GB and 64 GB internal storage. Thankfully, it comes with two dedicated sim slots and a microSD slot which accepts cards up to 256 GB. Along with the quick and accurate fingerprint scanner, the Moto G6 also comes with Face Recognition Unlock which also works well. The Moto G6 comes with water repellent p2i coating which protects your phone from splashes and some rains, it is a really great benefit to have. The earpiece doubles up as the speaker and has loud sound, it comes with Dolby Audio.

It comes with a non-removable 3000 mAh Li-Ion battery with Motorola’s ‘Turbo Charging’, which is very fast and charges the phone to 100% in around one and half hours. For the first time in a Moto G series phone, the Moto G6 comes with USB Type-C for data syncing and charging, and is a good start for the budget phones.
