Overall, the Asus Zenfone Zoom S with its excellent dual cameras, massive battery, premium design, good display and good performance is a good balanced phone. However, the price at which the company has placed this phone offers more powerful phones with better features. Also, the ZenUI needs more work. So, it now depends on what you feel, the phone is good but at few more thousands, you can get much better phones like the Honor 8 Pro or the OnePlus 5.

Asus has launched the new Zenfone Zoom S, which is its dual camera smartphone in the mid-budget segment. It comes in a beautiful metallic body which has small plastic patches on the top and bottom of the back panel. It packs in a massive 5000 mAh battery and despite that it weighs just 170 grams and is relatively thin at 7.99 mm. So design wise, Asus has done a very good job with the Zenfone Zoom S. The 5.5 inches Full HD AMOLED screen has good quality with good viewing angles and comes protected with 2.5D curved Corning Gorilla Glass 5.
On the performance front, it is powered by the 2.0 GHz Octa core Snapdragon 625 processor, which is a very popular and proven performer, but at this price a more powerful processor is highly expected, like most of its competitors are offering. It comes with 4 GB RAM and Adreno 506 GPU, and like we know the processor handles daily usage and gaming very well without heating and is also battery efficient. Coming to its most important highlight, from where it gets its name, it comes with a dual rear camera setup on the back with two 12 MP sensors.
The primary sensor is the Sony’s flagship IMX362 with f/1.7 aperture, 4-axis Optical Image Stabilization, 3-axis Electronic Image Stabilization, ASUS’s TriTech+ Auto Focus system (Dual Pixel PDAF + Laser auto-focus + Subject tracking auto-focus) with 0.03s instant focus, 4K UHD 30 fps video recording and Dual-LED flash while the second one is the Zoom camera with 2.3x optical zoom. The dual camera system clicks excellent photos with good colors, in the low light conditions also it manages to click good images with low grains however lacks details sometimes. Overall, the picture quality is very satisfactory.
On the front, there is a 13 MP Sony IMX214 sensor with f/2.0 aperture, it clicks some nice selfies having good colors and details. The camera app also offers a Portrait mode, Beautify mode, Selfie Panorama, GIF Animation and lots of modes and filters. It runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box with company’s ZenUI 3.0, however an update to Android Nougat is available. The ZenUI, though feature rich, needs lots of work. It gets a good fingerprint scanner on the back, at a comfortable position to operate.
It packs in 64 GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 2 TB via microSD card, it additionally provides 100 GB of free storage on Google Drive for 1 year. It comes with hybrid slot and supports 4G, VoLTE. The battery life on the phone is good and it can last you for two days with moderate to heavy usage. It comes with a 5V / 2A, 10W charger which charges the phone quickly, a good thing is, it also comes with Reverse Charging which lets you charge other phones. It also comes with DTS Headphone:X, which can provide 7.1 channel virtual surround sound over the supported headphones.
