Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 to come with AMOLED display with on-screen Fingerprint Scanner

Chinese smartphone major Xiaomi is about to launch the successor of its Mi MIX phone, which will be the Mi MIX 2. Reports suggest that the Mi MIX 2 will offer a 93 percent screen-to-body ratio with a curved AMOLED display rather than using the LCD display like that of its predecessor.

Founder and CEO of Xiaomi, Lei Jun and renowned French designer Philippe Starck recently confirmed that such a state-of-the-art phone development was in progress.

Mi MIX had a rear fingerprint reader but the Mi MIX 2 is supposed to only have a thin black bezel at its bottom, supporting an embedded fingerprint-sensor on the screen. Reports that the Mi MIX 2 will opt for such a new technology which will use a specific area of its display as a fingerprint sensor, thereby refraining from a dedicated fingerprint sensor at the back or front of the smartphone. The Mi MIX 2 will also have an improved bone conduction technology for producing better sound.

Just to look back on the Mi MIX, it is powered by a 2.35 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 Quad-core processor under its huge 6.4-inch Full HD display hood. It comes paired with 4GB RAM and includes an impressive 16 MP primary camera. But the highlight of the Mi MIX is its 91.3 percent screen-to-body ratio. The Mi MIX was launched in China and the company decided to not launch it in the Indian market. Back then, its 4GB RAM/128GB storage variant costed CNY 3,499 (approximately Rs. 34,500) Rs. 33,799 while the 6GB RAM/256GB storage version was launched at CNY 3,999 (approximately Rs. 39,500).

The Xiaomi Mi MIX’s launch took place in October 2016 and the Mi MIX 2 is expected to arrive in the second half of 2017.
