Xiaomi India sells more than a million smartphones in 18 days

The Chinese electronics company Xiaomi has achieved yet another milestone in India. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun announced that the company has sold more than 1 million smartphones in India in just 18 days.

Earlier this month, Xiaomi India announced that it had sold more than 500,000 smartphones in less than three days between October 1 to 3. The company also said that it had sold 2.3 million Redmi Note 3 units in six months.

Xiaomi entered the Indian market in July 2014 with Mi 3 and since then it has grown drastically. It started selling smartphones through flash sales via its first exclusive partner Flipkart. After that, Xiaomi partnered with Amazon, Snapdeal and expanded its roots to offline retailers as well.

With the festive season on in India and sales on major e-commerce portals like Flipkart, Amazon and Snapdeal, it’s not surprising that the company is seeing a boost in sales. However, to further strengthen their presence in the Indian market, Xiaomi India started their own ‘Diwali with Mi‘ sale which started on 17th October and ends today.

India is an extremely important market in Xiaomi’s globalization strategy. It has become our largest market outside of mainland China. When we entered India, there was extremely fierce competition. We have achieved such extraordinary growth in India firstly because of our vision to bring innovation to everyone with our high-quality products at incredible prices.

According to the Lei Jun’s post, Xiaomi aims to capture the largest market share in India within 3-5 years.
