Samsung had launched its much awaited and awe-inspiring Galaxy Note 8 smartphone in the Galaxy Unpacked event on 23rd August and as it was expected, the smartphone is turning a lot of heads. The Galaxy Note 8 had a big task on its shoulders especially after the Note 7 fiasco, and it seems that the smartphone is succeeding to take the load of expectations. Although we knew quite a lot about the smartphone through the leaks and rumors but, there are more innovative features that makes the Galaxy Note 8 worth owning. So let’s look at the smartphone and its features in details.
Design
Starting with the design, as per many, the Galaxy Note 8 is the best looking Note ever. The main highlight about the design of the smartphone is Samsung’s Infinity display which comes with the Galaxy S8 like end-to-end bezel less display. The wide 6.3-inch WQHD+ (2960 x 1440 pixel) Super AMOLED display with an unusual 18.5:9 aspect ratio is as beautiful as it was rumoured.
The smartphone holds a metal uni-body and Gorilla Glass 5 where, the metallic centerpiece that joins the front and back is polished in such a way that the Galaxy Note 8 is made up of a single glass sheet. The Infinity display is embedded in the typical rectangular Note series design that effectively helps to make the most of the S-pen that comes along.
Dedicated Bixby button
Again as we saw in the leaks, the smartphone comes with a dedicated Bixby button which starts Samsung’s own virtual assistant ‘Bixby‘. After a few problems initially, the company has now seemed to have solved the problems with Bixby, which is now ready for a global roll-out soon. Bixby responds to both touch and voice and has the ability to translate as many as 52 languages. Apple’s Siri, for your reference, maxes out at 30.
“Bixby’s voice capabilities have expanded to more than 200 countries and territories worldwide, allowing millions of consumers to experience a smarter way to interact with their phones.”
– Samsung said on Wednesday, while announcing the Galaxy Note 8.
Camera Features
As we know, the Galaxy Note 8 comes with a dual rear camera setup with two 12-megapixel cameras. One out of the two is a 12-megapixel sensor with Dual pixel technology and optical image stabilisation, the second 12-megapixel sensor again comes with optical image stabilisation to allow for up to 2X optical zoom (and 10X digital zoom). With this, it becomes the first smartphone in the world to come with OIS for both the cameras in the dual camera setup. The rear camera also comes with a feature called Live Focus that enables portrait shots, in real time, similar to the iPhone 7 Plus’s portrait mode.
Users can control the intensity of the overall blur effect and apply it before taking the image in preview mode, or after capturing the photo in the Gallery app. Another cool feature is the Dual Capture which gives the users the ability to zoom out on a photo captured with both rear cameras, showing the entire scene instead of just the original subject.
New S-pen
The Note 8’s S-Pen is waterproof, more sensitive, and has a smaller tip for easier writing. As per Samsung, the new S-Pen has a 0.7 mm rubber tip and a pressure sensitivity level of 4,096 to emulate a real pen-like experience. It comes with some new and improved features like the ability to magnify and translate content directly which includes making GIFs out of videos.
The new Screen Off Memo feature now allows the users to create up to 100 pages of notes, reminders, sketches or whatever you want. The S-pen also comes with IP68 certification similar to the Note 8 which makes it water and dust resistant.
Live message features
Making use of the S-pen, the Live Message feature will let you draw or write a message, and then share it in animated form. Users can draw on top of a photo or handwrite a message, and the Note 8 will record every pen stroke. The shared image is a standard animated GIF and should be playable regardless of the service used to send it.
App Pair Feature
The new App Pair feature is nothing but an extended version of the Multi window or Samsung’s Edge screen feature. With this feature, users can choose any two apps which support multi-window and pair them together. When you tap on the paired app icon, thereafter both the apps open simultaneously in multi-window and can be operated at the same time.
Security Features
Apart from the fingerprint scanner on the rear, the Galaxy Note 8 also comes with an iris scanner and facial recognition for biometric security making it more safe for unlocking the phone. The smartphone comes with Samsung Pass feature which stores all the passwords in one place.
So these were the new features that we were unaware of until the Galaxy Note 8 was launched. The smartphone with the innovations and advancements is surely something to get your hands on. Do let us know about your opinion by replying in the comments section below.
