Reliance Industries (RIL) Chairman Mukesh Ambani has said that its 4G services will be 40-80 times faster than the current average speed. The company’s billionaire owner also claims that the Reliance Jio Infocomm, is the world’s biggest startup with an investment of over Rs. 150,000 crore.
Jio has already launched services for Reliance group employees and their friends last December. A financial service agency has reported that the company is preparing for a soft launch of its 4G services soon in the country. The service will kick off with 70% coverage of India from day 1, and would cover over 90% of the population by 2017.
According to reports, Reliance will issue a Jio Sim card for Rs. 200 with 75 GB data and 4500 mins calls free for three months. It is also said to be offering low-cost voice plans for around Rs. 35 and family plans priced around Rs. 37. In comparison to its rivals, Vodafone and Airtel offers 20 GB data for postpaid users, which are priced at Rs 2,499 and Rs 3,000 respectively.
Reliance Jio is also expected to offer Mi-Fi devices to users with relatively low-cost plans. Recently, the company also launched its 4G smartphones under the LYF brand.
“Jio will significantly up the quantity, quality and coverage for broadband Internet while lowering the cost to the user.” He further added,”I have no doubt that with the launch of Jio, India’s position will go up from 150 to among the top 10 of mobile Internet rankings in the world,”– Mr. Mukesh Ambani.
