Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC based on Samsung’s 10nm process with Quick Charge 4.0 announced

    Categories: News

The chipset maker Qualcomm has announced its next-generation flagship processor, dubbed as Snapdragon 835. The company has partnered with Samsung to build the chip based on a 10nm FinFET process. The Snapdragon 835 SoC will replace the popular Snapdragon 820/821 as the company’s top-tier mobile processor.

As of now, Qualcomm isn’t providing many details on the Snapdragon 835, but it says the new 10nm process it is based on will lead to better performance and improved power efficiency. The company also says that the Snapdragon 835 will be able to deliver up to 27 percent higher performance while drawing 40 percent less power compared to the previous-generation 14nm Snapdragon 820 and 821.

The new Snapdragon 835 has the company’s latest Quick Charge 4.0 technology, which promises to provide faster charging, greater compatibility with various devices, cables, and chargers; and more safety features. The Quick Charge 4.0 improves on its predecessors by allowing devices to charge faster and more efficiently. The company claims “5 hours of usage from just 5 minutes of charging” and a typical battery could charge up to “50% in just 15 minutes.”

The Quick charge 4.0 technology is 20 percent faster and 30 percent more efficient than the Quick Charge 3.0. It is fully compliant with USB Type-C protocols, including USB Power Delivery. It includes more accurate measurement of voltage, current and temperature to protect devices and chargers from damage. It also has a new protection against overcharging.

We are excited to continue working together with Samsung in developing products that lead the mobile industry. Using the new 10nm process node is expected to allow our premium tier Snapdragon 835 processor to deliver greater power efficiency and increase performance while also allowing us to add a number of new capabilities that can improve the user experience of tomorrow’s mobile devices.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC is in production now and expected to ship in flagship devices early next year.
