Microsoft has launched two new Lumia devices in India – The Lumia 640 and 640 XL. It unveiled both the phones at the MWC earlier this year and they are now available to buy in India. The Lumia 640 is a 5 inches phone while the Lumia 640 XL has a massive 5.7 inches screen.
With the launch of Lumia 640 XL Microsoft makes a move in the phablet range. The Lumia 640 XL doesn’t stray far from the Lumia design scheme, it’s a one-piece plastic rear shell available in white, cyan, black and bright orange.
Lumia 640XL features 5.7 inch screen, it has the expected IPS screen with (720 x1280) pixel resolution, and it has a Qualcomm MSM8266 Snapdragon 400 Processor. Lumia 640 XL offers 13 MP rear and a 5 MP front camera for good Skype experience.
On the other hand, the Lumia 640 comes with 5 inch screen with same resolution thus increasing the pixel density to 294ppi, the processor is an obvious weak point Qualcomm MSM8926 Snapdragon 400 isn’t a powerful chip. Lumia 640 sports 8 MP camera on the back and a 1 MP front camera. Both the phones have same software as well as same Windows Phone OS 8.1, but remember that they do not support 4G LTE in India.
Both the phones have 8GB of internal storage which you can expand via micro SD up to 128 GB, 1 GB RAM for multitasking and both come with Dual SIM facility.
Windows offers a free 1 year office 365 personal subscription worth Rs 3,229 and 30 GB of free OneDrive storage online with both the models.
The price of Lumia 640 is very affordable Rs 11,999 compared to Lumia 640XL Rs 15,799 which seems a bit expensive. The Lumia 640 is available to buy on Flipkart and 640 XL can be brought from Microsoft’s website.
Microsoft promises that both the models will be upgradable to windows 10 OS when it is launched, Windows 10 is the first Windows OS able to run in all the windows supportive devices such as phones, tablets and laptops.
Windows 10 has feature to switch automatically between tablet and desktop mode depending on the presence of a mouse and keyboard. User can override any settings, making the default Start Menu or Start Screen of their choice.
Umm……. Which is better: an Android or a Windows Phone?
If you have a doubt whether Android or Windows will be right for you, we can say that Android is better suited to tech versed users and users who want to give a personal touch to the phone. Whereas, Windows Phone 8.1 will be good for those who wan’t to keep it simple. When it comes to the apps, the number of available apps in Windows Phone has been steadily growing, but they are well under the count of available android apps. After few months this fight is going to get more interesting with the launch of Windows 10.
