Following the trend of major tech giants like Samsung and Apple, LG also has announced an upgraded version of its flagship LG G6, dubbed as LG G6+. The smartphone holds almost the same specifications as that of the G6 but comes with 128 GB internal storage and support for Qi wireless charging which is the premium highlight. Apart from this, the company also brought in a new 32 GB storage variant of LG G6 with new color options. The new variants have been unveiled in South Korea and will be available through three major domestic carriers from next month. There is no clue about the price of the smartphones yet but it will be revealed when the smartphones become available.
The new LG G6+ comes in Optical Astro Black, Optical Terra Gold and Optical Marine Blue colors, which change the color when the light is reflected on it at a certain angle. The 32 GB variant of LG G6 comes in Terra Gold, Marine Blue and Mystic White colors where as original G6 comes in Astro Black, Ice Platinum and Mystic White color options.
The company also mentioned that all the G6 variants will get software updates simultaneously. A new update will add motion recognition for face recognition function that recognises the user’s face, even if the screen is turned off. It will also add a new low-power algorithm powered by Qualcomm’s All-Ways Aware technology that lowers standby power when a user is not using the phone by knowing the user’s location and movement. Coupled to this, there are also added features like Lens Blind Reminder, automatic call recording and fine volume control.
Coming towards the specifications, as mentioned earlier apart from the 128 GB internal storage and Qi wireless charging support in LG G6+, rest all the specifications remain same as that of the LG G6. The smartphone sports a 5.7 inches Quad HD (1440 × 2880 pixels) display with an almost bezel-less design and 80.7% screen to body ratio. There’s also the Quantum Display technology and full vision display with 18:9 ratio along with Dolby Vision and HDR 10.
LG G6/ G6+ are powered by a 2.3 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor with Adreno 530 GPU. The devices comes with 4 GB RAM and 32 GB/64 GB and 128 GB (LG G6+) internal storage options which can be further expanded up to 2 TB via microSD card. The LG G6 runs on Android 7.0 Nougat with LG UX 6.0 on top. The phones hold a Dual camera setup at the back with both the sensors having a 13 MP lens each. There’s a 5 MP selfie shooter on the front.
The smartphones come equipped with a fingerprint sensor and IP68 rating which makes them water and dust resistant. They hold a 3,300 mAh battery which is specially designed to prevent overheating or getting damaged and also supports quick charge 3.0 where, the company claims that the smartphone gets fully charged within an hour. For connectivity, there is 4G LTE, WiFi 802.11 ac (2.4 G,Hz and 5 GHz bands), Bluetooth 4.2 LE, GPS, NFC and USB Type-C.
