LG has announced the ‘Rolly Keyboard’, its first ever foldable wireless keyboard for smartphones that can turn into a pocket stick. The keyboard will be showcased at the upcoming IFA event next month in Berlin, Germany. It will be launched in the United States first, followed by Europe, Latin America, and Asia in the fourth quarter this year. The price has not been disclosed yet.
The Rolly keyboard can be paired with the device using the Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity by simply unfolding it, it can connect two devices at same time, users can toggle between the devices by pressing a key. It is powered by a single AAA battery which company claims lasts for at least three months. It has 17mm key pitch that is close to 18mm key pitch found on traditional keyboards which makes typing very simple.
The device also has a couple of arms (stands) that fold out to support smartphones as well as tablets in an upright position. However LG has stated that, the keyboard will only pair with the devices which sport displays up to 10-inch.
On unveiling the Rolly keyboard, Seo Young-jae, Vice President in charge of Innovative Personal Devices at LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company said:
“LG Rolly Keyboard is just one of the many premium input devices we’ll be unveiling in the coming months as we expand our accessories offerings. The goal was to create a product that could add more value to LG smartphones and tablets at the same time offering a unique design proposition that hadn’t been explored before.”
