The Noida-based smartphone manufacturer, Ringing Bells that launched the world’s cheapest-controversial smartphone, Freedom 251 few days ago for Rs. 251, has now promised that it will return the money to every customer, who has pre-ordered the smartphone and will accept the payment only after the smartphone is delivered.
According to the company, about 30,000 people paid for booking the phones and over 7 crore people registered for it before the payment gateway that was facilitated by CCAvenue and PayU Biz crashed. The company has now said that all the 30,ooo customers will receive the refunded amount this week, and from now it will accept only Cash on delivery.
“There was a lot of negativity around us so we have decided to take money from customers only after delivering phones to them. We are refunding money to those who have paid for booking the phones and giving them an option of cash on delivery. Our payment gateway companies CCAvenue and PayU Biz have sought time till Wednesday to credit back the amount in accounts of all those who have paid. After which we will send an email seeking confirmation for cash on delivery.”
-said, Mohit Goel, Director, Ringing Bells.
He further added “We don’t want customers’ money initially. We have investors to back our project. There is a business model to justify the price. We have a foolproof plan and to whomsoever we have disclosed it has agreed to it. I don’t want to disclose full details as of now.”
To recall, Ringing Bells Freedom 251 features 4-inch touchscreen display, 1.3 GHz quad-core SoC, 1GB RAM, 8 GB ROM, Android 5.1 and a 1450 mAh battery.
