Facebook launches its first VR dedicated app ‘Facebook 360’ for Gear VR

    Categories: NewsSocial

The 360 degree photo and video experience has now been redefined with the launch of an all new Facebook 360 app. Facebook’s first VR dedicated app, Facebook 360 currently supports Samsung’s Oculus powered Gear VR headset only. The app will help users to find more 360 degree photos and videos. This opens a new door for 360 degree content and makes it easier to explore and discover new 360 photos and videos.

The app consists of four different feeds instead of letting you browse from the normal news feed of Facebook. The four feeds include Explore, Following, Saved and Timeline. ‘Explore’ helps you discover interesting and popular 360 content on Facebook from media companies, organizations and individual creators. While ‘Following‘ allows you to experience 360 content from pages and friends you follow. ‘Saved‘ helps you in finding all the 360 degree content that is saved from the news feed and ‘Timeline‘ keeps track of all 360 content you have uploaded.

To download the Facebook 360 app for Gear VR, open the Oculus app on your Gear VR-compatible Samsung device and search for Facebook 360. You can also download it from the Oculus wesite.

Facebook in its blog post says that:

“With more than 25 million 360 photos and more than 1 million 360 videos posted on Facebook to date, there’s plenty of great content to discover in Facebook 360. The app is a one-stop shop for catching up on what you may have missed from your friends and others you follow, diving into the 360 photos and videos you’ve saved, and finding something new to enjoy.”

Facebook hopes for warm and exciting response to this app. Hope it excites you as well. Stay tuned for more updates.
