Asus has officially announced the much awaited ‘ZenFone AR’ at the ongoing CES 2017. It is the World’s first smartphone that is compatible with both Tango AR and Google’s Daydream VR platform. It is also the World’s first smartphone to come with 8GB of RAM. While, the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro was the first Tango enabled smartphone.
The Asus ZenFone AR sports a 5.7-inch Quad HD (2560 × 1440 pixels) Super AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection. It is powered by a 2.3GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 821 processor, clubbed with Adreno 530 GPU. As stated, it is the World’s first smartphone to feature 8GB of RAM. However, other variants of the smartphone will also be launched, including a model with 6GB RAM.
The ZenFone AR packs three rear cameras, a 23-megapixel main camera with dual-tone LED Flash, Sony IMX318 sensor, f/2.0 aperture, 6P Largan lens, 4-axis OIS, 3-axis EIS, Laser AF and other two for motion-tracking and depth sensing that supports Tango’s AR capabilities. It has an 8MP front-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture and 85-degree wide-viewing angle.
The ZenFone AR also comes with a new immersive 5-magnet speaker that supports High-Res Audio and DTS virtual surround sound Hi-Res Audio 192kHz/24-bit standard and NXP Smart AMP technology. The fingerprint sensor is mounted on the front.
The hybrid dual-sim smartphone runs on Android 7.0 Nougat with Zen UI 3.0 on top. It is backed by a 3300mAh battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 support. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 ac5 GHz 2×2 MIMO, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, USB Type-C. It measures at 158.67 x 77.7 x 4.6 ~ 8.95 mm and weighs in at 170g.
The Asus ZenFone AR comes in Charcoal Black colour with leather finish and will roll out starting from Q2 2017. However, there is no word on pricing of the smartphone yet. Stay tuned for more updates!
