1. Lenovo Z2 Plus:

Lenovo has recently launched the Lenovo Z2 Plus in India, however, it is actually the Lenovo Zuk Z2 that was launched in China a little earlier. They have just ditched the Zuk branding here in India and launched the phone with only Lenovo branding. Starting with the build and design of the phone, it comes with a fibre-glass frame unlike metal used in most high-end phones these day. The company says that, using the fibre-glass frame helps in reducing the weight and rightly so, despite having a 3500 mAh battery, it weighs at 149 grams only. The front and back of the phone are covered with 2.5D curved glass. The phone comes in white and black colors, it looks good and feels premium. It comes with a compact 5 inches screen with Full HD display which has good quality. The Z2 Plus is powered by a 2.15 GHz Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor coupled with Adreno 530 GPU and as expected the performance is absolutely excellent, it plays heaviest of the games smoothly but heats up a bit during heavy gaming although it is acceptable. It comes in two variants, one with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB storage and other with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage, however the phone doesn’t support expandable storage and doesn’t include the microSD slot. It runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with ZUI 2.0 running on top. The ZUI comes with stock Android like UI with Google Now launcher, however there are many tweaks and added features in the UI. The most interesting and unique thing in the phone is the physical home button below the screen, which Lenovo calls as U-Touch 2.0. The U-Touch 2.0, firstly acts as a fingerprint scanner but, it also acknowledges a touch, a press, double press and end to end swipe. You can customise this button and select which actions should be performed for double press, long press, long touch and left to right swipe, like a touch can be used for back, a press to open home screen, double press can open camera, long touch for recent apps, long press for Google Now and changing apps by swiping left to right on the button. The concept of this button is a real good idea and improves user experience, however, it will take some time to learn it but at the same time, the company is also allowing on screen navigation buttons. The Z2 Plus packs a 13 MP rear camera with 4K video recording support, it has decent picture quality, it’s not the best but it is not bad also. However, the 8 MP front camera is very good. It also includes various health related sensors and a U-Health app, which tracks your steps, walking, running, etc. It is a dual sim phone with 4G and VoLTE support. It features a USB Type-C v2.0 port for fast charging and data syncing. It is backed by a non-removable Li-Po 3500 mAh battery which delivers very good battery life. It also comes with Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging support. Overall, the Lenovo Z2 Plus is a compact, well designed and a very balanced smartphone. Innovative feature like the U-Touch home button is a nice addition. At the same time, it is a performance powerhouse and is the cheapest phone in India to come with the powerful Snapdragon 820 processor. It ticks almost all the boxes right and is the best phone under 20000 Rs. in India.

[section label=”2. Lenovo Vibe X3″] [label variation=”label-success”]Topped this list for 8 months (Feb-16 to Sep-16)[/label]

2. Lenovo Vibe X3:

Lenovo is on a roll in India, it was ruling the 7k & 10k smartphone segments for quite long and lately it also gained a solid presence in the 15k & 25k smartphone segments, 20k was the only segment where an amazing Lenovo phone was missing and with the launch of the new Lenovo Vibe X3 in India this gap is also filled now. The Vibe X3 features a very premium beautiful design, it has got high quality aluminium frame and chamfered edges. The back of the phone is built from a very soft high quality polycarbonate which feels really good in hands. It sports a 5.5 inches Full HD (1080 x 1920 pixels) display with 401 ppi pixel density, the display quality is really very good. The Vibe X3 is powered by the powerful and popular Snapdragon 808 Hexa-Core Processor which is usually seen in high-end phones, it is paired with 3 GB RAM and Adreno 418 GPU and delivers excellent performance, it is lag free for everyday usage and also plays heavy games smoothly, also there is no heating issue. It also includes a 21 MP rear camera with Sony’s IMX230 sensor with 6 piece lens and f2.0 aperture, it is supported by Dual-LED flash. The picture quality of the rear camera is very good, the camera app also includes lots of options and also the pro mode. It is also capable of 4K Video recording. The 8 MP front camera is also very good. It has a very fast and accurate fingerprint scanner situated on the back. The Vibe X3 features two front facing Dolby Atmos speakers (placed above & below the screen) which have very good sound quality. It comes with Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box with Lenovo’s new Vibe UI 3.0 running on top. In the version 3.0, Lenovo has quite improved its Vibe UI, it now comes with more features and also includes the option to arrange your icons in an App drawer like Stock Android. It supports dual sim but has hybrid slots so at a time you can either use second sim or the microSD card. It has 32 GB internal storage and supports microSD cards upto 128 GB. The phone also has additional connectivity options like NFC and Infrared Blaster. The phone is backed by a big 3500 mAh battery which supports quick charging. Overall, the Lenovo Vibe X3 delivers all the excellent features of a flagship phone, be it the premium design, powerful performance, great cameras or great multimedia experience. So, if you are after a bigger 5.5 inches screen and better multimedia or camera experience, the Lenovo Vibe X3 will be the best phone under 20000 Rs. for you. If you want professional level camera in a smartphone, you can also go with the Lenovo Vibe Shot which comes with 16 MP camera with infrared autofocus, 6P lens, OIS, 16:9 BSI sensor, tricolor LED flash, dedicated shutter button and all the Pro settings. If you need a very large battery backup, you can also go with the Lenovo Vibe P1 Turbo, which also comes with good specs & good design.

[section label=”3. Vivo V3 Max”]

3. Vivo V3 Max:

The Vivo V3 Max is the recently launched flagship phone from the company in the Indian market. Before we get into the details of the phone, it is worth noting that Vivo is currently the no. 5 smartphone manufacturer in the world and it is trying to position itself like a premium brand in India so, the expectations with this phone are high. Starting with the design, the Vivo V3 Max comes with a full metallic body and 2.5 D curved glass on the front, which looks good and gives a good feel. The build quality is good, the phone looks decent in terms of design but isn’t very beautiful. The phone has a thickness of 7.6 mm and it weighs 168 grams and feels bulky at times. It packs a 5.5 inches Full HD display which has good quality. The Vivo V3 Max is powered by the powerful 1.8 GHz Octa Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 Processor coupled with 4 GB RAM. Although, the Snapdragon 652 is not the top of the line processor from Qualcomm but still it delivers a very good performance, fast and smooth enough to play all the heavy/ graphics intensive games easily. It runs on the older Android 5.1 Lollipop with company’s own Funtouch OS 2.5 running on top of it. The Funtouch OS 2.5 is very heavily customised and is designed to look and work very close to Apple’s iOS. The phone features a 13 MP rear camera with single LED flash and an 8 MP front facing camera. The rear camera has decent picture quality but much better camera phones are available at around the same price or even lower price. Although the front camera is good. The music experience on the phone through Vivo’s Hi-Fi chip is very good, the speaker is loud and clear and the audio output via the headphones is impressive. The fingerprint scanner positioned at the back of the smartphone is fast and accurate, it can store up to 5 fingerprints. It is a dual sim phone with 4G support. It comes with 32 GB internal storage which is expandable via microSD but has the hybrid slot. It is backed by a non-removable Li-Ion 3000 mAh battery which has good battery backup, it also supports fast charging and charges quickly. Overall, the Vivo V3 Max is a good overall phone which packs all the latest features supported by good performance but, it is the pricing of this smartphone which is very critical is determining whether you should buy it or not. Phones like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 and the LeEco Le 2 are delivering almost same features at around Rs. 12,000 and if you increase your budget a little you get the much better Xiaomi Mi 5. So, the Vivo V3 Max which was earlier priced around Rs. 23,000 is still an overpriced deal after the price cut.

[section label=”4. Oppo F1s”]

4. Oppo F1s:

After the Oppo F1 Plus, Oppo has launched another phone under its famous ‘Selfie Expert’ tag, the Oppo F1s. The biggest highlight of the phone is its 16 MP front camera which comes with a 1/3.1-inch sensor and f/2.0 aperture lens. It can click some really amazing selfies with great depth both in normal and low light conditions, although it misses out the front flash but to compensate, it turns the screen white and uses ‘Screen Flash’ which does the job to some extent. The Oppo F1 Plus also allows to take Selfie Panorama and comes with ‘Beautify 4.0’ which makes your selfies even more beautiful. It also includes lots of filters and selfie customisation options which lets you play with your selfies and have fun. The Oppo F1s comes with a smaller than the front, 13 MP rear camera with LED flash and PDAF, it also captures good quality images. Talking about the design, the Oppo F1s looks almost similar to the Oppo F1 Plus, which means it looks beautiful and feels very premium with its metallic unibody design, also it feels strong and sturdy at the same time. The 2.5D curved glass which is also protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 also adds to the phone’s beauty on the front side. Coming to the cons, it sports a 5.5 inches HD display, which is a disappointment at this price, still the quality of display is good and can be accepted. Another disappointment is, it runs on the old and weak 1.5 GHz Octa Core Mediatek MT6750 Processor coupled with 3 GB RAM. It delivers good performance for normal usage but for Gaming and Multitasking, phones with much better processor are available around the same price or even at lower prices so, heavy users must stay away from it. The Oppo F1s runs on the older Android 5.1 Lollipop based Color OS 3.0 on top. The Color OS is heavily inspired with the iOS, it has very similar icons and UI and whether you like this fact or not, it isn’t bad and looks beautiful. It packs a very fast and good quality fingerprint scanner situated on the physical home button on the front below the screen. It is a dual sim phone with 4G support on both the sim slots. It packs 32 GB of internal storage which is further expandable up to 128 GB via microSD card, good thing is that, there is a dedicated slot for the microSD card. The phone is backed by a non-removable Li-Po 3075 mAh battery which gives around a day’s battery backup. Overall, the Oppo F1s packs a great selfie camera and very good premium design but weak performance and lack of Full HD display doesn’t allow a good complete experience, still selfie lovers can go for it.

[section label=”5. Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime”] [label variation=”label-danger”]Newly Launched[/label]

5. Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime:

Samsung has finally launched two well designed premium smartphones Galaxy J5 Prime and Galaxy J7 Prime in the budget segment in India. Talking about the bigger Galaxy J7 Prime, the first thing to notice about the smartphone is its full metal unibody design which looks and feels premium. A 2.5D curved glass is used on the front which adds very good looks to the phone. The back of the phone is curved towards the edges which makes the phone comfortable to hold in hands. It weighs 167 grams and has a thickness of 8.0 mm. So, in the design department, Samsung has done a good work overall and has produced a beautifully designed phone. It packs a 5.5 inches Full HD display which has good display quality and nice viewing angles, the screen is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. It is powered by a 1.6 GHz Octa-core Exynos 7870 processor coupled with 3 GB RAM and delivers good performance for day to day usage and can handle gaming as well, however, heavy gamers should stay away from it as there are excellent phones like the Lenovo Z2 Plus already available at a similar price. It runs on the latest Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with Samsung’s TouchWiz skin running on top. It sports a 13 MP rear camera which comes with f/1.9 aperture and single LED flash and has good picture quality. The 8 MP front facing camera with f/2.2 aperture clicks very good quality selfies. The Galaxy J7 Prime also includes a fast and accurate fingerprint scanner placed on the home button below the screen. It is a dual sim phone with 4G support. It comes with 16 GB of internal storage which is expandable upto 256 GB via microSD card and includes a dedicated slot for it. The phone is backed by a non-removable Li-Ion 3300 mAh battery which delivers good battery backup. When low on battery, it includes the Ultra Power Saving Mode which cuts off most of the background apps and extends the battery life. Overall, the Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime is a beautiful well designed smartphone with all the balanced features. Except for heavy users, it is a good smartphone to be bought but, when it comes to the pricing, it still feels a little overpriced compared to the competition so, if you are ready to pay a bigger price for the brand value of Samsung you should go for it otherwise there are much better alternatives under 20000 Rs.
