Google Releases Messenger for Android, a New SMS App with Material Design

Google has released a new standalone Messenger App, which is built for just sending and receiving SMS and MMS unlike its other messaging app Hangouts. The app carries a beautiful Material Design and gives probably the best experience for managing your SMS (only if you use SMS, as this is a Whatsapp era and the use of traditional messaging is declining fast but Google thinks there are still plenty of people who rely on SMS & MMS).

The Messenger app comes pre-installed with Android Lollipop but the users who have devices running Android v4.1 and higher can download the App from Google Play.

The Messenger app is an enhanced and beautiful version of the Google’s stock messaging app. Google has added the “colored text threads” feature into the App which means, every thread has some different color, which makes the texting experience fun! Some of the new features of the new Messenger App are:

• Faster sharing: Select or take pictures and videos directly from the app and share easily. You can even send audio messages to your contacts.
• Easy search: Search through contacts and conversation threads to find exactly what you are looking for.
• Purposeful design: New, fluid, material design that is intuitive and delightful.
• More control: Ability to block SMS senders. No interruptions when you don’t want them!

Google has also added some more interesting features like audio messages, emoji support, and message archiving.

So, if you have a device running Android 4.1 or higher you can enjoy the beautiful experience with the Messenger App and if you still use SMS for conversations, this is a must have app for you.
